“An activity which forces a person to achieve something. It is a source of efforts which provides vigor. It energies, organizes and directs our behavior. Aim is always behind motivation. It incites humans to achieve their tasks. Our energy level is increased by it.”
It is of two types:
v External / Extrinsic
v Internal / Intrinsic
External Motivation’s stimulus:
Prizes, Awards, Praise, Medals, It weakens our abnormal behavior.
Internal Motivation:
In it, there is a relationship between source of stimulus and task. Pleasure of individual is directly linked with the task until and unless he achieves the task.
It is induced by curiosity, ego-involvement, competition etc.
How to motivate students?
Ø Students want recognition.
Ø Teacher can motivate the students by “Calling their Names”
Ø Making the sign with “Thumb” for well-done.
Ø Making victory sign with fingers.
Ø Giving courage remarks e.g.
“That’s like a Good Girl/Boy.”
Ø Giving them stars
Ø Making comic signs on their notebooks
Ø Giving “Good, Excellent, and other motivated words”
Ø Clapping
Ø Introducing him/her to other teachers
Ø Giving them good performing certificates
Ø Shield and medals at the end of the academic year.
If a student have negative attitude we can control by:
Ø If a student is not paying attention, teacher may stop for a while, when a student will be attentive, teacher gives him/her a smile and recontinue the lesson.
Ø When again the student is not attentive, teacher may give him/her a serious look to realize him/her.
Ø By warning him/her orally
Ø Nodding his head, telling students not to do that
Ø Making him/her stand on the chair
Ø Standing up arms
Ø Asking him to write a lesson for certain times as for punishment
If student’s learning attitude is still so negative than teacher will carry out research and case study of that student.
